News and events
Our pre-Christmas Supermarket Collection events were well supported by the local community with over 3 tonnes of food and toiletries items donated over 6 days and in 2 locations.
The events kicked off on Monday 24th November with Tesco staff member - Katrina Hopkins - covering the foodbank stand from Monday to Wednesday and singly collecting 5 cages of donations! These donations weighed a massive 983.8 kg. Another Tesco staff member - Bob White - kindly took care of our donations in the warehouse and arranging convenient times for us to collect.
At Waitrose South Woodford - management, staff and customers were again extremely generous and supportive.
Tesco Barkingside (24th - 29th November 2014)
2.1 tonnes food and toiletry donations - £407.61 cash donations
Waitrose South Woodford (5th - 6th December 2014)
945.7 kg food and toiletry donations - £316.52 cash donations
Our thanks and appreciation to our donors, regular Redbridge foodbank volunteers, Barkingside Rotary volunteers, Halifax Bank staff, members of St Mary's Church Woodford, Redbridge JCP, Redbridge YOS, City Gates Young Adults and anyone else we failed to mention.
Supermarket Collections run effectively because of the continual support we receive from our Redbridge Foodbank volunteers, Youth group from All Saints Woodford Wells, staff from Redbridge Jobcentre Plus, Redbridge Youth Offending Service, Barkingside Rotary, Halifax Bank (Ilford Branch), St Mary's Woodford, Customers, Management and Staff at Waitrose South Woodford, Redbridge Tesco Stores, Redbridge Sainsbury's Stores and space provided by Jubilee Church Ilford, Big Yellow Gants Hill and Redbridge Local Authority.
We also need to mention Inprints - Romford, Link Place - Simon Green Training Centre, Hainault and Speedprint - Gants Hill for their fantastic work - supplying all our printing needs in good time and to a superior standard.
We now have a Permanent Food Collection Points at the following locations where you can drop off your donations for Redbridge foodbank:

We had a fantastic day at the Uphall Primary School event. Parents, students, teachers and guests generously
donated food and toiletry items to Foodbank. A big THANK YOU to all the Foodbank volunteers who came along on the day - especially our very own Minnie and Mickey Mouse!
Caterham High School invited us to speak about our Foodbank project in 5 of their assemblies from Monday 26 November to Friday 30 November. Fifteen Redbridge Foodbank Volunteers took up this opportunity to share what they do and why they have a desire to help people in crisis. The feedback was fantastic with the volunteers thoroughly encouraged by the response from the young people at Caterham High School.
“...It was an amazing time at the school. I was blown away by the excellent behaviour of the children and how attentive they were to every word that was spoken...”
Julie Jennies (Redbridge Foodbank Project Coordinator)
“...we all got such a lot out of having the guys (Redbridge Foodbank Volunteers) there... Whilst I'm encouraged that we collected a lot, that was the tip of the iceberg! We now have over 500 tins in our reception area to be split between you and the cold weather centre!”
Helen Kunda (Teacher – Caterham High School)
